Point 1 — Jesus Deeply Loved the Scriptures
What is it about the Scriptures that Jesus loved so much, and why does he encourage us to love them too?
Matthew 5:17-18, “Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. 18 For truly I tell you, until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke of a pen, will by any means disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished.”
Point 2 — Jesus teaches how to understand the Scriptures
How does the life of Jesus reframe how we read all of Scripture? In what ways does he illuminate certain parts of the Bible?
John 5:37-40, “And the Father who sent me has himself testified concerning me. You have never heard his voice nor seen his form, 38 nor does his word dwell in you, for you do not believe the one he sent. 39 You study the Scriptures diligently because you think that in them you have eternal life. These are the very Scriptures that testify about me, 40 yet you refuse to come to me to have life.”
Point 3 — Jesus invites us to know him more deeply through his Word.
How has the Scripture made you more wise in the ways of Christ? In what ways has the Bible allowed you to be conformed to Christ?
Romans 10:17, “So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ.”
We said that there are multiple ways to read the Scripture: Devotionally, Narratively, Morally, and Theologically. Possibly try practicing a couple of these methods with Psalm 1.
