The Church Empowered (8/23)

Opener (if needed): If you could be an expert in anything, what would it be? If you are already an expert, please choose something else 🙂

  • Keep it lighthearted and fun.

Read the Scripture: Romans 12:1-8

  • Reflect on the sermon. Is there anything that stood out to you? How are you encouraged or convicted?

Why does Paul remind his readers to not think more highly of themselves than they ought to think in the context of this passage?

  • Romans 12:3, “For by the grace given to me I say to everyone among you not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think, but to think with sober judgment, each according to the measure of faith that God has assigned.”

How is it empowering and liberating to understand your gifts?

  • Romans 12:6-8, “Having gifts that differ according to the grace given to us, let us use them: if prophecy, in proportion to our faith; if service, in our serving; the one who teaches, in his teaching; the one who exhorts, in his exhortation; the one who contributes, in generosity; the one who leads, with zeal; the one who does acts of mercy, with cheerfulness.”

What is the value of seeing the Christian community as a ‘body’?

  • Romans 12:4-5, “ For as in one body we have many members,[e] and the members do not all have the same function, so we, though many, are one body in Christ, and individually members one of another.”
