The Promises of God: 1 Corinthians 4:20

Do you remember a moment when you felt completely powerless?

  • Ex. An important final exam, a relationship, sickness, etc.

Read the Passage: 1 Corinthians 4:20

  • Main Idea – The true kingdom gives everyday power for ordinary moments

  • What stood out to you in the sermon and the main idea?

What was the problem with the Corinthians?

  • Ex. full of talk with no action.

Talk is easy and it’s easy to fake — Why do we typically resort to cheap and easy talk instead of power?

  • Ex. We don’t let God own every area of our lives, We want the sensational instead of the ordinary, We don’t think Jesus will really show up, etc.

Power is the proof of the kingdom — In your own life, how has God revealed His power to you?

  • Ephesians 3:20-21, “Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen.

True power flows from the king — What makes Jesus the true giver of power?

  • 2 Corinthians 12:9, “But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.”

Spend sometime praying to recognize the power and presence of the Holy Spirit.

  • Acts 1:8, “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”
