People of Love: Matthew 22:35-40 1/5
Life Group Questions
What is one thing you love so much that you can’t do without it?
Ex. Chips and salsa, a particular book, a piece of clothing, significant other
Before you discuss the Scripture reflect as a group what makes “loving” something different from “liking” it.
Read the Scripture: Matthew 22:35-40
Reflect on the sermon. Is there anything that stood out to you?
The text says to love God with all your heart, soul, and mind. How is this practically lived out? Specifically in regards to your emotions and thoughts.
Heart – Loving God with all of your emotions
Mind – Loving God with all of your thoughts and imagination
Soul – All of your being
Reflect on the Scriptures below. In what ways have you been changed by the love of God in your life?
Zephaniah 3:17, “The Lord your God is in your midst, a mighty one who will save; he will rejoice over you with gladness; he will quiet you by his love; he will exult over you with loud singing.”
Jeremiah 31:3, “I have loved you with an everlasting love; therefore I have continued my faithfulness to you.”
Psalm 136:26, “Give thanks to the God of heaven, for his steadfast love endures forever.”
We are able to love God because He first loved us. Do you find it difficult to receive God’s love? How do you often work for his love?
1 John 4:7-9, “Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God, and whoever loves has been born of God and knows God. 8 Anyone who does not love does not know God, because God is love. 9 In this the love of God was made manifest among us, that God sent his only Son into the world, so that we might live through him.”
1 John 4:18-19, “There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear. For fear has to do with punishment, and whoever fears has not been perfected in love. 19 We love because he first loved us.”
It was said on Sunday that if you have a love problem then you have a sin problem. Is there something in your life that is keeping you from loving God fully?
Remember: True change and freedom is found in community.
