Sermon on the Mount, week 12
Why do we do spiritual disciplines? The discipline itself isn’t “the big thing” but they bring us into a deeper experience of God, and that’s the thing we should be focused on. Fasting is one spiritual discipline we don’t often talk about in our culture. Fasting deprives us of food to lessen our dependence on the physical body and increase our dependence on the spirit of God. It reveals our sin and struggle, it’s not about ourselves or our feelings, and it takes patience but fasting is an avenue to closeness with God.
Caleb Iorg shares from Matthew 6: 16-18.
