The Promises of God: Matthew 16:13-38

Tanner Heath   -

Do you remember a time when you felt really alive in a moment?

Read the Passage: Matthew 16:13-38

  • Main Idea – Jesus brings the Kingdom here and now.

  • What is communicated in this passage?

What is the difference between Kingdom Theology and Salvation Theology? Which one do you tend to believe more?

  • Kingdom Theology – I am raised to life as a citizen of a new place, with a new identity, a new king, with new power, new culture, and a new mission: let the kingdom come.

  • Salvation Theology – do what I have to do, to end up where I want to go

How do you know something looks like the true kingdom?

  • Ex. God’s intention for the church as an outpost for heaven.

    • Where Jesus is King

    • Where justice flows to the oppressed

    • Where healing comes to the broken

    • Where freedom comes to the captive

    • Where the dead are raised to life

How is the church a gift to people in the kingdom, and how may the world propose a counterfeit kingdom?

  • The Local Church, founded on the Gospel, rescued by Jesus, Given by God, empowered by the Spirit, is the hope of the world.

Importance of the Church — Think about the three main points from Sunday

  1. True Christianity is never practiced alone.

    • a gathering of citizens called out from their

homes into some public place, an assembly.

  2. Jesus loves the Church.

    • Jesus says, “I will build my church.”

  3. The true Church is unstoppable.

    • The gates of hell shall not prevail against it.
